[01] How it works3 steps
  1. 01

    Give it the code

Drop an image on the box, paste a screenshot, choose a photo, or press Use camera and hold the code in front of it.

  2. 02

    Read what it says

The result shows the kind of code (link, Wi-Fi, contact, text) and everything inside it, with the code outlined on your picture.

  3. 03

    Check, then open or copy

For a link, read the full address and any warning signs first. Then open it, copy it, or run it through the link checker.

[02] Good to know3 notes

What happens to your picture

Nothing is sent anywhere. The page loads a small QR reader (ZXing, an open-source library used by many scanner apps) into your browser, and the picture is read right there. Once the reader has loaded, it keeps working with Wi-Fi off.

The reader finds every code in the picture, even several at once, upside down, or light on dark. Each one gets a green outline so you can see which result belongs to which code.

Read it before you open it

A QR code is just text. Most of the time it is a web address, but it can also be a Wi-Fi password, a contact card, a calendar event, a payment request or a two-factor key. This page tells you which, in plain words, and never opens anything on its own.

For links, you get the full address and a short list of anything that looks off: a short link that hides the real site, a brand name in the wrong place, letters swapped for lookalikes. It is a list of facts, not a promise that a site is honest.

When it can't find a code

Most failures are photos where the code is too small, blurred, cut off at the edge, or shot at a steep angle. Crop the picture so the code fills most of it and try again. If it still fails, the QR code not scanning page checks the image and says what is wrong with it.

[03] Questions7

Can you scan a QR code without an app?

Yes. On a phone, the built-in camera app reads QR codes on iPhone and most Android phones. On a computer, or when the code is a picture on your screen, this page reads it in the browser with no app and no sign-up.

Can I scan a QR code from a picture or screenshot?

Yes. Choose the picture, drop it on the box or paste it. Screenshots work best because they are sharp. For photos, the code should fill a good part of the picture and not be blurred.

How can I scan a QR code that is on my own phone screen?

Take a screenshot, then open this page on the same phone and choose the screenshot. On iPhone you can also long-press a QR image in Photos or Safari. On a computer, paste the screenshot here or use Scan my screen.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is read inside your browser and stays on your device. The page has no server that receives pictures, and no account.

Is it safe to scan a QR code?

Scanning only reads text, so scanning itself does nothing. The risk is in what you open afterwards. This page shows the full link and any warning signs before you open it, but no tool can promise a site is honest. Be careful with codes that ask you to pay or log in.

Can it read more than one QR code in a picture?

Yes. Every code it finds is listed and numbered, and the same numbers are drawn on the picture.

Does it read barcodes too?

Yes: EAN, UPC, Code 128, Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec and more. The barcode scanner page shows extra facts for product barcodes, like the check digit.
