What is inside a Wi-Fi QR code
A Wi-Fi code is a short line of text: WIFI:T:WPA;S:network name;P:password;; Phones read it and join the network, but laptops, smart TVs, game consoles and printers often can't scan anything. This page shows the same name and password so you can type them in.
It also tells you the kind of security (WPA2, WPA3, the old WEP, or an open network) and whether the network is hidden, which means it won't appear in the list and has to be added by name.
Getting a Wi-Fi code off your own phone
Android: Settings › Network › Wi-Fi › tap the network › Share shows a QR code; take a screenshot of it. iPhone: on iOS 18 and later, the Passwords app shows a code for a saved network (Passwords › Wi-Fi › the network › Show Network QR Code). Since iOS 16 you can also see the password itself in Settings › Wi-Fi › the (i) next to the network.
The screenshot stays on your device here. Delete it afterwards if you don't want the password lying around in your photos.

How do I see the Wi-Fi password from a QR code?
Read the code with a scanner that shows the text instead of joining straight away. Drop a picture of it on this page: the network name and password appear, with a copy button.
How do I scan a Wi-Fi QR code on a laptop?
Most laptops can't join from a QR code. Take a photo of the code with your phone and open it here, or use your webcam, then type the password into the laptop's Wi-Fi menu.
Can I get the password from a Wi-Fi QR code screenshot?
Yes. A screenshot is the easiest way: it is sharp, so it reads first time.
Why does it say this is not a Wi-Fi code?
Some posters use a QR code that opens a web page with the Wi-Fi details, or a login page, rather than a real Wi-Fi code. Then there is no password inside the code itself.
Is the password sent anywhere?
No. The picture is read in your browser and the password is only shown on your screen.
What does WPA, WEP or nopass mean?
The kind of security. WPA2 and WPA3 are current and fine. WEP is very old and easy to break. nopass means an open network without a password.
